What's left behind the scenes

  • Meryl Streep personally called Lady Gaga and asked her to play a supporting role.
  • Originally, Andy had a roommate played by Conrad Ricamora, but the character was removed after preview screenings because audiences began questioning why Andy needed a roommate in the first place.
  • A painting of Miranda as a waitress hangs in the fast-food restaurant. Director David Frankel commissioned the painting from artist Alexis Franklin with the condition that the result should resemble the work of an AI neural network.
  • The filmmakers were not allowed to close the shopping gallery in Milan for filming, so to avoid crowds of onlookers, they filmed there at 3:30 AM with only Meryl Streep. Since the city residents already knew about the shoot, the filmmakers tried to limit themselves to a single take, and the entire scene was filmed on the day of departure.
