- Filming was delayed by two years due to the lead actor, James Gandolfini, being busy with the television series "The Sopranos".
- The film's director and screenwriter, John Turturro, chose the songs that would eventually be included in the film even before he acquired the rights to them. He was in the process of acquiring them during the period when Gandolfini was filming "The Sopranos".
- Unlike most of the other actors in the film, Susan Sarandon does not sing herself in the movie.
- During the last week of filming, Kate Winslet sprained her ankle while shooting a scene where she dances with Gandolfini.
