What's left behind the scenes

  • The film owes its title to one of Tom Waits' songs. In the end credits, the filmmakers thank the singer for kindly allowing them to use the title.
  • After finishing work on this film, Gary Oldman was going to immediately begin filming the drama "True Romance" (1993) directed by Tony Scott (1944-2012). The final scene of the film was shot last, and according to the actor himself, his character's important and self-satisfied gait from "True Romance" was already visible there, which is why his friend at the time advised him to do one more take.
  • During filming, Gary Oldman broke a rib.
  • In the car scene, Lena Olin performed all the stunts herself (she had to crawl from the back seat to the front, kick out the windshield, climb through it, slide off the roof of the car, and then run down the street in handcuffs). Initially, it was planned to use a stunt double, Janet Paparazzo, for this scene, but Olin watched her rehearse the scene with director Peter Medak and then approached the director and asked for permission to perform everything herself.
  • Initially, Mona was supposed to be an Italian living in New York, but when Ellen Barkin left the cast due to pregnancy and was replaced by Lena Olin, her character's nationality was also changed, and Mona DeMarco became Mona Demarkova, a Russian.
  • A linguist was present on set to help Gary Oldman with his New York accent.
