What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was shot at Edison Studios in the Bronx, New York.
  • In those days, it was common for actors to create the look for each of their roles themselves. Charles Ogle applied his own makeup and selected his own costume, guided by his vision of the Monster and its description in Mary Shelley's novel.
  • For decades, the film was considered lost, with information about it limited to a photograph of Charles Ogle as the Monster and a plot summary from Edison's film catalog. In the 1950s, a copy of the film was acquired by Alois Detlaff, a collector from Wisconsin, who did not initially recognize its significance and only discovered in the 1970s that he possessed a unique rarity.
  • A film adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel "Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus".
