What's left behind the scenes

  • Will Smith and Tom Hanks were approached with an offer to star in the film. Smith expressed interest but declined in favor of filming "Bad Boys 3." Colin Farrell was cast instead. Hanks was considered for the role of the villain, but he turned down the offer due to commitments to other projects.
  • The first live-action reboot of a Disney animated film, which is a completely standalone work.
  • The film features Isaac Dunayevsky’s march twice, which was originally written for the film "The Circus."
  • A special container was kept on set for fines for swearing. A fine was imposed for each swear word used on set, and the money was donated to charity at the end of filming. It is said that Colin Farrell contributed the most money.
  • Eva Green is afraid of heights. During filming, she overcame her fear with the help of a specialist who trained her to perform the stunts.
  • Costume designer Colin Atwood deliberately did not create a single black and white striped item of clothing for the film, stating that it would be too predictable, as such items always appear in Burton's films.
  • Michael Buffer, a professional boxing and wrestling announcer, starred as the ringmaster. Buffer is known for his signature phrase “Let’s get ready to rumble!” which he says before each fight. In the film, he says: “Let’s get ready for Dumbo!”
  • The filmmakers cast real circus performers to add authenticity to the story. In particular, Christian Kristof, a fourth-generation member of a Hungarian circus dynasty, appeared on screen.
  • Roshan Seth, who played the snake charmer, actually walks around with a live python around his neck.
  • Real circus performers acted as extras. Over 600 circus artists from around the world were hired for the crowd scenes.
  • Most of the filming took place at Pinewood Studios and at the airfield in Cardington, Great Britain.
  • The 'Dreamland' sign above the entrance is made in the same font as all the 'Tomorrowland' signs in all Disney theme parks.
  • Miss Mermaid's costume consisted of more than a hundred hand-sewn scales, each of which consisted of 3-4 layers of fabric and a shiny trim.
  • Will Smith and Tom Hanks were approached with offers to star in the film. Smith expressed interest but declined in favor of filming "Bad Boys 3." Colin Farrell was cast instead. Hanks was considered for the role of the villain, but he rejected the offer due to commitments to other projects.
  • The march by Isaac Dunayevsky, originally written for the film "The Circus," is performed twice in the film.
  • Michael Buffer, a professional boxing and wrestling announcer, played the ringmaster. Buffer is known for his signature phrase, "Let’s get ready to rumble!," which he says before each fight. In the film, he says: "Let’s get ready for Dumbo!"
