What's left behind the scenes

  • At the end of 2006, it became known that the Weinstein brothers' company, Bob and Harvey Weinstein, would be the distributor of the film in the United States. Interestingly, this is the second film about Bob Dylan to be released under the Weinsteins' patronage: "I Slept with Andy Warhol," starring Hayden Christensen as Dylan, also produced by the Weinsteins, premiered on December 29, 2006.
  • Colin Farrell was initially cast as Robbie Clarke. However, the actor left the project to undergo treatment for an addiction to pills he was taking for a back injury, and Heath Ledger (1979-2008) was cast in his place.
  • Todd Haynes needed Bob Dylan's permission to use his songs in the film. Unlike his 1998 film "Velvet Goldmine," when David Bowie (1947-2016) did not grant similar permission to use his songs in the film, Haynes believed that the film could not be made without Dylan's songs. Following the advice of Bowie's manager, Haynes briefly described the concept of the film and its characters, and Dylan approved. Due to financial difficulties, the film was only shot 6 years later.
