What's left behind the scenes
- Director Lee Chang-dong drew the film's idea from real life, inspired by a case where a group of teenagers in a small town raped a peer. He heard about it but initially didn't want to make a film based on actual events. Later, during a trip to Japan, he saw a relaxation program on television, and the outlines of the future film began to form in his mind. "I suddenly remembered that crime, the word 'poetry' came to mind, and the image of a 60-year-old woman."
