Story

What's left behind the scenes

  • Director and screenwriter Tom DeSimone claims that the filmmakers initially understood that finding an actress for the lead role would not be easy. They were right, as several actresses rejected the offer to star in the film. Then, someone saw Candice Ryalson in the comedy 'Strip Nurses' (Alan Holleb, 1974) and suggested reaching out to her. Ryalson was somewhat disconcerted to learn exactly what role was being offered, but DeSimone assured her that it would be a tasteful parody. Ryalson read the script and agreed.
  • A world tour in support of the film was organized for the lead actress, Candice Ryalson. First-class seats were booked for her on all modes of transport, but she exchanged them for cheaper class tickets and kept the price difference for herself. When she flew to Australia, the passenger list noted 'American actress Candice Ryalson.' During the flight, a flight attendant approached her and invited her to the cockpit, where the pilot and co-pilot showered her with compliments, called her their favorite American actress, and told her they simply adored her performance in the war drama 'Soldier in a Blue Uniform' (Ralph Nelson, 1970). It was only then that the actress realized she had been mistaken for Candice Bergen, who starred in Nelson's film; she felt embarrassed but did not correct the pilots and even signed as Bergen when asked for an autograph.
