What's left behind the scenes
- Robert Picardo later admitted that the alien makeup in this film was the most uncomfortable he had to wear throughout his entire film career. It got to the point where the actor developed wounds on his head due to the makeup and prosthetics.
- River Phoenix spent his childhood in South America, so he was completely unfamiliar with the lifestyle and slang of American teenagers. During rehearsals, he often made mistakes in using youth slang and expressions, which delighted everyone present.
- The film was never completed. Someone at the studio decided to move the film's release date. Director Joe Dante was bluntly told that the film was ready and would be released as is.
