A Sound of Thunder

In a near future, time travel has become a commercial venture. A company called Time Safari takes wealthy clients back millions of years to hunt living dinosaurs, on the strict condition that nothing in the past is disturbed and nothing is brought back. When one hunter leaves the marked path and accidentally kills a butterfly, the small change ripples forward through evolution and begins reshaping the present. Travis Ryer, who leads the expeditions, and scientist Sonia Rand must find a way to repair the damage before the shifts become permanent.

The film is directed by Peter Hyams, the fifteenth of the seventeen features he has made in chronological order, following The Musketeer and preceding Beyond a Reasonable Doubt. Edward Burns plays Travis Ryer, Catherine McCormack plays Sonia Rand and Ben Kingsley plays the head of the safari company, Charles Hatton, with William Armstrong, Jemima Rooper and David Oyelowo among the supporting cast. The screenplay is credited to Joshua Oppenheimer, Gregory Poirier and Thomas Dean Donnelly, and the production was spread across Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

Made for around 80 million US dollars, the film returned roughly 12 million worldwide, a fraction of its cost. On IMDb the film holds a critics' rating of 3.2 out of 10 from 99 reviews, while on TMDB it sits at 4.9 out of 10 from 463 votes, a slightly warmer audience response than that of reviewers.
