What's left behind the scenes

  • The Ides (Latin: Idus, from Etruscan iduare, “to divide”) – in the Roman calendar, this was the name given to the day in the middle of the month. The 15th of the month was the Ides in March, May, July, and October; the 13th in the remaining eight months. After the calendar reform by Julius Caesar (see Julian calendar), the connection between the length of the month and the date on which the Ides fell was lost. Julius Caesar was assassinated by conspirators on the Ides of March (March 15th) in 44 BC.
  • The film is based on the 2008 play “Farragut North” by American playwright Beau Willimon. It received this title after one of the Washington Metro stations, Farragut North, which is located north of Farragut Square.
  • Sony Pictures wanted the film to retain the play’s title, “Farragut North.” George Clooney managed to defend the original title he had chosen, but not without difficulty.
  • The film’s opening credits state that it was filmed in Michigan, however, almost all exterior shots were filmed in Cincinnati, Ohio. The film’s producers later apologized for this oversight and promised that it would be corrected upon DVD release.
  • Copies of the film were delivered to American cinemas under the false title "Double Vision".
