Takedown

Takedown follows Kevin Mitnick, a hacker who has spent years eluding the FBI while breaking into systems that are meant to be impenetrable. His attention turns to Tsutomu Shimomura, a security specialist and former hacker whose work on intercepting private communications becomes the target of Mitnick's curiosity. What begins as another technical challenge develops into a personal contest between the two men, while federal agents close in on Mitnick.

The film is based on the book by Shimomura and journalist John Markoff about the investigation that led to Mitnick's arrest, and Shimomura is credited as a producer. Joe Chappelle directed; it was his third feature, arriving between Phantoms and The Skulls II. The screenplay was written by Leslie Newman, David Newman and John Danza. Skeet Ulrich plays Mitnick, with Russell Wong as Shimomura, Tom Berenger and Christopher McDonald as the FBI agents pursuing him, and Angela Featherstone and Donal Logue in supporting roles.

Released in 2000, the film runs 92 minutes. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 4 out of 10 from 17 reviews, while on TMDB its audience rating stands at 6.1 out of 10 from 188 votes, a gap that suggests viewers responded more warmly than reviewers did.
