- Most of the scenes filmed abroad were shot in Dublin and County Wicklow. Scenes of Irish forests, the Dublin port, the castle interior, and the giant cave were filmed in Thailand, as were most of the interior scenes.
- It took 4 months to build the sets in Thailand. 250 Thai workers, with a small number of English personnel, had to build the castle interior, which was constructed in a closed stadium. They were also forced to build a giant cave, which was built in a massive warehouse, and an Irish estate, which was built in a fully equipped studio.
- The mahjong scene was suggested for inclusion in the film by Claire Forlani.
- Rowan Atkinson was initially considered for the role of Lee Evans. However, he declined to participate in the film due to the small fee offered.
