Quick Change

Grimm is a New York City urban planner who has had enough of the crime and disorder around him and intends to leave town for good. With help from his girlfriend Phyllis and his dim friend Loomis, he stages a bank robbery in a clown disguise, taking hostages and walking out with the money. The robbery itself goes more smoothly than anyone expected. Getting out of the city afterward is another matter entirely. Police, a stray tip from Loomis, an unhelpful taxi driver, a stubborn bus driver and a brush with organized crime all work against the three of them as they try to reach the airport.

Quick Change was released in 1990 and runs 89 minutes. It was directed by Bill Murray and Howard Franklin, from a screenplay by Franklin, and produced by Murray with Robert Greenhut. Murray stars as Grimm opposite Geena Davis as Phyllis, Randy Quaid as Loomis and Jason Robards as Chief Rotzinger, with Stanley Tucci and Phil Hartman in supporting roles. It is the first of the three films listed for Murray and Franklin as directors, ahead of The Public Eye and Larger Than Life.

Made for a budget of about 15 million dollars, the film took in roughly the same amount worldwide, so it did not turn a profit at the box office. Audiences rate it modestly but consistently, at 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb from nearly 22,000 votes and 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB. A critics' score of 6.7 out of 10 from 37 reviews places it close to the audience verdict.
