Arlington Road is a crime thriller about Michael Faraday, a history professor in a Washington suburb still struggling after his wife, an FBI agent, was killed during a botched operation. Raising his son alone, Michael and the boy grow close to the friendly couple who move in across the street. Yet small lies and inconsistencies in the neighbor's behavior unsettle him, and his attempts to find out who the man really is leave him unsure whether his suspicions are justified or a product of his own grief.
Mark Pellington directed the film from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger; it was the first of the director's feature films and precedes The Mothman Prophecies and later work. Jeff Bridges plays Michael, with Tim Robbins and Joan Cusack as the neighbors Oliver and Cheryl Lang, Hope Davis as Brooke Wolfe, Robert Gossett as FBI Agent Whit Carver and Mason Gamble as Brady Lang.
Released in 1999, the film runs 117 minutes and was made for about 31 million dollars, returning roughly 41 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from about 1,310 votes, while a critics' score of 6.1 out of 10 from 92 reviews places professional assessment below the audience response. The production involved Lakeshore Entertainment, PolyGram Filmed Entertainment, Screen Gems and Arlington Road Productions Corporation.
