Short description

John Mulaney: Baby J is a stand-up comedy special in which John Mulaney performs before a live audience, drawing on a turbulent period of his life. He talks about an intervention staged by friends concerned about his addiction and about his time in treatment, framing the material around his return to the stage after several difficult years. The special was released in April 2023 and runs eighty minutes.

The special is directed by Alex Timbers, who wrote the screenplay with Mulaney; Mulaney also appears as himself. Baby J is the first of three titles Timbers has directed, followed by Alex Edelman: Just for Us in 2024 and The Muppet Show in 2026. It was produced by Multiple Camera Productions in the United States.

Audience reception has been positive. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.5 out of 10 from roughly 7,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.2 out of 10 from about 121 votes. The large gap in vote counts between the two platforms reflects how much wider IMDb's user base is, though both point to a similar level of approval for the special.
