Silent Movie

Silent Movie is a 1976 American comedy directed by Mel Brooks, who also stars as Mel Funn, a Hollywood filmmaker fresh out of rehab. Together with his two oddball associates, Marty Eggs and Dom Bell, played by Marty Feldman and Dom DeLuise, Funn pitches a silent film to the head of a financially troubled studio. Convinced that a movie without dialogue could pull the company back from the brink, the trio sets out to recruit well-known stars to appear in it, while the studio's creditors work to stop them.

The film came fourth in Brooks's run as a director, after The Producers, Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles. He wrote the screenplay with Barry Levinson and Ron Clark, and Michael Hertzberg produced. Sid Caesar plays the studio chief, with Harold Gould and Ron Carey among the large credited cast. Made for about four million dollars, it took roughly thirty-six million worldwide.

Audience scores sit at 6.7 on IMDb from twenty thousand votes and 6.5 on TMDB from a few hundred, while the critics' rating stands at 6.8 from twenty-nine reviews, placing critical and audience responses close together.
