What's left behind the scenes

  • The main character's name, Elia, corresponds to the name of the biblical prophet Elijah, whose deeds resonate with many scenes in the film. For example, the scene where Elia talks to ravens corresponds to the biblical legend of the prophet being fed by a raven.
  • The film's title echoes the famous comedy by William Shakespeare, “The Taming of the Shrew” (in Italian — La bisbetica domata), in which a willful and capricious woman is brought to reason by a man.
  • The film ranked 11th in attendance among foreign films in Soviet cinema distribution.
  • For release in the USSR, some scenes were cut or significantly shortened – for example, the opening scene, the scene of hunting the hunters, the scene where Elia's cow calved, the fight in the restaurant between Lisa and her friend, the erotic scene of Lisa seducing Elia topless, the penultimate scene in Elia's house after his wedding, and the scene with the pig. One of the final scenes, showing a shaking chandelier, was also cut.
  • The name of the main character, Eli, corresponds to the name of the biblical prophet Elijah, the meaning of whose deeds resonates with many scenes in the film. For example, the scene in which Eli talks to ravens corresponds to the biblical legend of how a raven fed the prophet.
