Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

In Coolsville, Mystery Inc. is being honored with an exhibition at the Coolsonian Museum, where the costumes of the villains the gang has unmasked over the years are on display. A masked figure steals the costumes and uses a machine to bring the monsters they represent to life, turning the town's celebration into a wave of real threats. Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby set out to find whoever is behind the outbreak. Pressed by the media and the townspeople, the group also has to deal with tensions among themselves, and Shaggy and Scooby, eager to prove they are more than comic relief, decide to pursue the case on their own.

Raja Gosnell directed the film, the fifth in the chronological list of his features, arriving two years after his Scooby-Doo. James Gunn wrote the screenplay, with Charles Roven and Richard Suckle producing for Warner Bros. Pictures and Mosaic Media Group. Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini reprise their roles as the four human members of the gang, Neil Fanning voices Scooby-Doo, and Seth Green appears as Patrick. The production cost about 80 million USD and took in roughly 181 million USD worldwide, a solid commercial result. On IMDb the film holds 5.3/10 from 72,000 votes and on TMDB 6.1/10 from 2,991 votes, while its critics' rating stands at 4.5/10 from 117 reviews, so critics were noticeably cooler on it than audiences were.
