The Muppet Movie

The Muppets settle in to watch the film they have just completed, a big-budget story of how Kermit the Frog left his swamp after a talent agent urged him to try his luck in Hollywood. Travelling west, he picks up companions with similar ambitions, among them Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy and Gonzo, while Doc Hopper, the owner of a chain of frog-leg restaurants, pursues him in the hope of making him the face of his business.

The 1979 film was directed by James Frawley, its third feature after Kid Blue and The Big Bus. Jim Henson produced and voiced Kermit and several other characters, with Frank Oz performing Miss Piggy, Fozzie and Animal, and Jerry Nelson, Richard Hunt and Dave Goelz filling out the puppet troupe; Charles Durning plays Doc Hopper. Jerry Juhl and Jack Burns wrote the screenplay.

Made for about 8 million dollars, the film took roughly 76 million worldwide, a strong return. Audiences rate it 7.6 on IMDb from 42,000 votes and 7.2 on TMDB, while a film critics' rating of 8.2 from 53 reviews places it above both.
