TOCKA

Set in a desolate town in northern Japan, the story follows Shoji, a shopkeeper mourning the loss of his wife. He wants to die so that his daughter can collect his life insurance payout, but he discovers that his policy does not cover suicide. While searching for a way to bypass this restriction, he meets Saki, a woman who is also struggling with suicidal thoughts. Together, they navigate their shared desire for death and explore the value of human connection.

The film was directed by Yoshitaka Kamada, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Hitomi Kase. Produced by Kazunao Sakaguchi, the movie had a runtime of 119 minutes and was released on June 10, 2023, in Japan.
