Fata Morgana

Based on a novel by Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi, this historical drama focuses on a rural Ukrainian community during the revolution of 1905 to 1907. The story centers on a strike initiated by farmers at a distillery, which leads to violent clashes. Local wealthy individuals begin attacking the rebels, and the situation concludes in a massacre after a detachment of dragoons is called in from the city.

Produced in the Soviet Union by the Ukrainfilm studio, the film was directed and written by Borys Tiahno. It was created as a silent movie and was completed in 1931. The main cast features Stepan Shahaida in the role of Prokopiy and Valentina Mironova as Malanka.
