Short description
Samantha Caine teaches school in a small town and is raising her young daughter, with no memory of anything before she was found on a beach eight years earlier. After a car accident and a break-in at her home stir fragments of that missing past, she learns she was once Charly Baltimore, a government operative. With help from Mitch Henessey, a private detective, she sets out to find out who she was and to face the people who want her past to stay buried.
Renny Harlin directed the film, the eighth of the twenty-eight features he has made, following Cutthroat Island and preceding Deep Blue Sea. Shane Black wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Stephanie Austin and Geena Davis, who stars as Samantha and Charly. Samuel L. Jackson plays Mitch, with Patrick Malahide, Craig Bierko, Brian Cox and Sharon Washington among the cast.
The film was released in October 1996 and runs 121 minutes. It was produced by New Line Cinema with Forge and The Steve Tisch Company on a budget of 65 million dollars, and took in about 89 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.8 out of 10 from roughly 92,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.6 from about 1,400 votes. A critics' rating of 6.1 from 61 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores.

- Part of the film was shot at the Windermere House hotel in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada. During filming at the hotel, a fire broke out, completely destroying it. The hotel owners blamed the film crew for the fire. However, no evidence of this accusation was ever found. Several years later, the hotel was rebuilt.
