What's left behind the scenes

  • During filming, a large part of the crew fell ill with dysentery. Robert De Niro was one of the few who didn't contract the disease.
  • Many of those who played the Guarani were indigenous people from South America and spoke little English. They were given the opportunity to speak in their native language regardless of what was happening, and rumors have it that in their dialogues they were actually cursing the thunderstorm.
