Dead Presidents

Dead Presidents follows Anthony Curtis, a young Black man from the Bronx who enlists in the Vietnam War in 1968 alongside his friends Jose and Skip. When he returns home three years later, he finds that his service counts for little: steady work is scarce, and supporting his family proves harder than he expected. With few options open to him, he joins forces with fellow veterans and friends for an armed robbery, targeting an armored truck carrying unmarked currency.

It is the second feature directed by Albert and Allen Hughes, arriving two years after Menace II Society. The brothers wrote the screenplay with Michael Henry Brown and also produced. Larenz Tate heads the cast as Anthony, with Keith David as Kirby, Chris Tucker as Skip, Freddy Rodríguez as Jose, and N'Bushe Wright as Delilah. Around forty credited cast members and roughly 125 credited crew worked on the production.

Made for about 10 million dollars, the film returned roughly 24 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.9 rating from around 27,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.7 from roughly 347. The critics' rating stands at 6.2 from 34 reviews, lower than the audience scores, indicating a mixed professional response alongside warmer viewer appreciation.
