Eli Wurman is a veteran New York publicist whose career has shrunk to a single prestigious client, film star Cary Launer, even as his health and judgment decline under a reliance on pills and alcohol. When Launer asks him to help with Jilli Hopper, a model and actress with a troubled past, Eli is drawn into a night that turns violent. What begins as a favour becomes a murder he fears he will be blamed for, pushing him through a world of illegal drugs, political dealings and compromised relationships. Alongside this, Eli is organising a charity event for a group of African refugees facing deportation, an effort that brings him into conflict with the city's powerful interests.
The 2002 drama-thriller was directed by Daniel Algrant, from a screenplay by Jon Robin Baitz, and produced by Michael Nozik. Al Pacino leads as Eli, with Kim Basinger, Ryan O'Neal, Téa Leoni, Richard Schiff and Bill Nunn among the credited cast. It was a German-American co-production made for about 20 million dollars, and its worldwide gross of roughly five million dollars was well below that figure.
On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.2 out of 10 across 189 votes.
