Herbie Goes Bananas

Herbie Goes Bananas is a Walt Disney family adventure about a Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of its own. Pete inherits a racing car from his uncle and travels to Puerto Vallarta with his friend Davy to collect it, only to find an ageing Beetle rather than the machine he expected. Once the two young men realise what the car can do, they set their sights on taking it to a grand prix in Brazil. On the way they cross paths with Paco, a young street thief, and become entangled with criminals pursuing stolen goods, which puts the car and its passengers in the middle of a smuggling scheme.

Vincent McEveety directed the film, his fifth in the list of his features and his second Herbie film after Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo. Don Tait wrote the screenplay and Ron Miller produced. The cast includes Cloris Leachman, Charles Martin Smith, John Vernon, Stephen W. Burns, Elyssa Davalos and Joaquin Garay III, among 52 credited performers. Made by Walt Disney Productions, it took about 18 million dollars worldwide.

On IMDb it holds 6.9/10 from 29 votes, while on TMDB it has 5.4/10 from 262 votes, so the two audiences differ noticeably in size and in verdict. The film runs 93 minutes and mixes adventure, comedy, family and fantasy.
