The film is based on Ian Fleming’s novel “Casino Royale” (1953).
The film was originally planned as another installment in the Bond series, but Feldman was unhappy with the fee Sean Connery demanded for the lead role, and a decision was made to make a parody.
Val Guest, Ben Hecht, Joseph Heller, Terry Southern, Billy Wilder, and Peter Sellers also contributed to the screenplay but were not credited.
Composer Burt Bacharach’s musical theme, Bond Street, was later used in one of the Bond films, “Octopussy.”
The film's posters featured a nude tattooed woman, and Orson Welles attributed the film's commercial success to her.
Next to Orson Welles, one can notice a rug beater as a reference to Fleming's original novel.
Doctor No and Giovanna Goodfings are references to Fleming's characters Doctor No and Mary Goodnight.
