The Greatest Night in Pop

The Greatest Night in Pop is a documentary about the recording of "We Are the World," the charity single that brought together many of the biggest names in American music in January 1985. The film follows the logistics and the atmosphere of that single night in a Los Angeles studio, where dozens of performers assembled to lay down vocals for the song. Much of the account is told through the recollections of the people who were there, including Lionel Richie, one of the song's writers and a producer of the documentary. Bruce Springsteen, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Loggins, Huey Lewis and Cyndi Lauper also appear as themselves among a credited cast of 54.

The documentary was directed by Bao Nguyen and runs 96 minutes. It is the first of his three films to date, followed by The Stringer: The Man Who Took the Photo in 2025 and BTS: THE RETURN in 2026. It was produced by Richie with George Hencken and Larry Klein, and made by MRC, Dorothy St Pictures and MakeMake, with the United Kingdom and the United States among the countries of production.

It has been well received by viewers, holding the same 7.9 rating on IMDb, where it has drawn around 16,000 votes, and on TMDB, where the tally is in the low hundreds.
