Piece by Piece

Piece by Piece tells the story of Pharrell Williams through LEGO animation. The film follows Williams from his early days as a young musician in Virginia to his rise as a singer, rapper and producer, using LEGO models to represent different stages of his creative development. Friends and collaborators appear throughout, sharing their experiences of working with him, and the film mixes documentary elements with animated sequences in which Williams himself recounts his own path.

Morgan Neville directed the film, which sits between The Saint of Second Chances and Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming with Dave Letterman in his filmography and came after Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain. Neville wrote the screenplay with Jason Zeldes and Aaron Wickenden. Williams voices himself, alongside Chad Hugo, Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake. The production involved 354 credited crew members and 37 credited cast members, and was made by LEGO, Pure Imagination Studios, Tremolo Productions and i am OTHER on a budget of 16 million dollars.

Released in October 2024, the film earned 11 million dollars worldwide, less than its budget. It holds a 6.9 rating from 7,600 votes on IMDb and a 7.2 from 166 votes on TMDB, while critics gave it 6.9 from 127 reviews, placing audience and critical responses close together.
