Short description
The Fury centres on Peter Sandza, a CIA agent whose son Robin is taken from him. Peter discovers that the kidnapping was staged by his own colleague Ben Childress, who runs a secret program that studies young people with paranormal abilities and aims to turn their powers into weapons. Cut off from official help, Peter seeks out Gillian Bellaver, a teenager with telekinetic gifts, hoping she can lead him to Robin and help him bring the boy back.
Brian De Palma directed the film, the seventh of the twenty-four features listed in his filmography, arriving between Obsession and Dressed to Kill. John Farris wrote the screenplay, and Frank Yablans produced for 20th Century Fox. Kirk Douglas plays Peter, with Amy Irving as Gillian, John Cassavetes as Childress, Carrie Snodgress and Charles Durning in supporting roles, and Andrew Stevens as Robin; twenty-four performers receive credits. Made for about six million dollars, the film returned roughly twenty-four million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.3 rating from around nineteen thousand votes, and on TMDB also 6.3, from a much smaller tally of 422. A critics' rating of 7.2 from thirty-three reviews places it noticeably above those audience scores.
