What's left behind the scenes
- Takeshi Kitano became the director of this film by accident. In 1989, Kitano was cast in the film for the lead role of an unbalanced policeman. When the director fell ill and was unable to continue working on the film, Kitano managed to finish the picture himself, significantly changing the script and the way the material was presented in the process. The film was successful and marked the beginning of Kitano’s directing career. Kitano subsequently often recalled this momentous event (the director’s illness), as it is practically impossible to start a directing career in Japan without a specialized cinematic education.
