The Best of Me

This archival documentary examines the obsession of Ricardo López, an exterminator living in suburban Atlanta. Beginning in the early 1990s, López developed a fixation on the Icelandic musician Björk, which he recorded through diaries and home videos. His fascination turned to anger when he discovered that the singer's personal life did not align with his racial expectations. This led him to plan her murder by sending a package of sulfuric acid, intending to take his own life afterward so they could be together in the afterlife. While the police intercepted the package and saved the singer, López died by suicide. The film uses only crime scene reports, photographs, and video diary entries to chronicle his final days.

The movie was produced and directed by Justin Landsman. It is the second film in his career, following Invaders From Within! and preceding ee. The production features the subjects themselves, Ricardo López and Björk, appearing as themselves. Released on March 29, 2025, in the United States, the film runs for 89 minutes and blends elements of crime, horror, and music.
