Young David

Set in the hills of Bethlehem, this animated family film follows the early life of a shepherd boy named David. Before becoming the king of Israel, David navigates various challenges in the countryside, where he discovers courage, faith, and the value of friendship. The story focuses on his humble origins and the personal growth he experiences long before his well-known military victories.

The film was co-directed by Phil Cunningham and Brent Dawes, who previously directed Jungle Beat: The Movie in 2020. For Cunningham, this production precedes his 2025 film David, which Dawes also directed. The screenplay was written by Kyle Portbury. The voice cast features Brandon Engman as the title character, alongside Matthew Gair, Sloan Lucas Muldown, David Rosenberg, Gabriella Lewis, and Edan Moses. Produced by Angel Studios, Sunrise Productions, and Slingshot USA, the project is a joint effort between the United States and South Africa. The short film has a runtime of 30 minutes and was released on July 4, 2024.
