Cheech & Chong's Next Movie

Cheech loses his job, his girlfriend Donna is losing patience with him, and a neighbor wants the television turned down. Rather than sorting any of it out, Cheech and his friend Chong drift through Los Angeles, where a trip to the welfare office where Donna works goes wrong and leaves them back on the street looking for money. Their circumstances grow more complicated with the arrival of Cheech's cousin, Red Mendoza, and the pair's usual appetite for marijuana keeps pulling them into further trouble.

Tommy Chong directed the film, the first of three he made with Cheech Marin; Nice Dreams followed in 1981 and Still Smokin in 1983. Chong and Marin wrote the screenplay together, with Howard Brown producing for Universal Pictures. Cheech Marin plays both Cheech and the cousin Red, and Tommy Chong plays Chong. Evelyn Guerrero appears as Donna, alongside Betty Kennedy, Sy Kramer and Rikki Marin in a large credited cast and crew.

Released in July 1980, the comedy runs 99 minutes and took about 42 million dollars worldwide, a strong return for its time. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from roughly 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 out of 10 from 278 votes, showing a modest but durable following for the duo's stoner humor.
