The Clan of the Cave Bear

Set during prehistory, this adventure drama follows Ayla, a young girl from a more developed human lineage who is orphaned by a natural disaster. She is adopted by a group of Neanderthals after Iza, a medicine woman, convinces the tribe to ignore their customs and keep the child. As Ayla grows up, her superior intelligence and different nature cause friction within the community. While some see her as a guide for the group, her abilities lead to conflict with other members, eventually resulting in her rejection by the clan.

Directed by Michael Chapman, this was his second feature film following All the Right Moves. The movie was written by John Sayles and produced by Gerald I. Isenberg. The cast is led by Daryl Hannah as Ayla, alongside Pamela Reed, James Remar, Thomas G. Waites, John Doolittle, and Curtis Armstrong.

Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, PSO, The Guber-Peters Company, and Jonesfilm, the film had a budget of 15 million USD but earned 2 million USD at the worldwide box office. It has received a mixed reception from audiences, holding a rating of 5.4/10 on IMDb based on 7,400 votes and a 5.3/10 on TMDB from 137 votes.
