Jim Craig returns to the Australian highlands of Snowy River with the intention of marrying Jessica Harrison. His homecoming is complicated by the disapproval of Jessica's father and the interference of another man pursuing her. Meanwhile, a conflict arises between wealthy landowners and local horse breeders, as the powerful ranch owners seek to seize highland territories for their own cattle. Jim must navigate these social and familial tensions to secure his future with Jessica.
