Short description

Scherbenland is a documentary that explores the history of the Berlin district of Kreuzberg over a fifty-year period. The film focuses on the rock band Ton Steine Scherben, founded by Rio Reiser, R. P. S. Lanrue, Kai Sichtermann, and Wolfgang Seidel. It examines how the group's music provided a voice for a generation during the early 1970s, coinciding with political struggles and the rise of a counterculture characterized by house occupations. The narrative connects the legacy of the band's influential work with the musicians who followed them.

The film was directed by Lutz Pehnert, following his 2018 work Partisan and preceding the release of Kommunist in 2026. Susann Schimk served as the producer for this German production. The cast includes Maike Rosa Vogel and Rio Reiser, who appears through archive footage. The documentary has a runtime of 100 minutes.
