Bullet

Butch "Bullet" Stein comes home to New York after eight years in prison for a store robbery. He finds his old neighbourhood under the control of Tank, a drug dealer who was once his rival behind bars and who now runs the local trade. Bullet's family is still there: his parents, a brother whose mind was broken by Vietnam, and a younger brother who paints murals on buildings. Rather than take the ordinary job his father offers him, Bullet goes back to drugs, dealing and settling scores, and robs two customers of Tank's. That act turns a personal grudge into open war with one of the city's most powerful dealers, and everyone close to Bullet is drawn into the consequences. The film was written by Mickey Rourke with Bruce Rubenstein and directed by Julien Temple, whose earlier features include Absolute Beginners, Earth Girls Are Easy and Aria, with Pandaemonium and the documentary London: The Modern Babylon coming afterwards.

Rourke plays the title role; Tupac Shakur plays Tank. Adrien Brody, Ted Levine, Matthew Powers and Donnie Wahlberg appear among the thirty-one credited cast members. It is an American production from Village Roadshow Pictures, New Line Cinema and Clipsal Films, running one hundred minutes.

On IMDb the film holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 9,500 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from 138 votes, indicating modest but persistent attention from viewers rather than wide acclaim.
