What's left behind the scenes

  • Emma Watson was offered the lead role, but she declined.
  • Mark Romanek was initially appointed as the film's director, but he left the project due to creative differences.
  • Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander, Imogen Poots, and Gabriella Wilde were considered for the role of Cinderella.
  • More than 240 meters of fabric and 10,000 Swarovski crystals were used to create Cinderella’s dress, and over 4,800 meters of stitching were done. Nine identical dresses were made for filming the movie.
  • When working on the castle and ballroom, Dante Ferretti used various architectural styles from different eras and locations, mainly elements of European architectural styles from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. The hall turned out enormous – 45 meters long and 32 meters wide. It occupied the entire seventh pavilion of Pinewood Studios. The interior was luxurious: marmor floors; a massive staircase; curtains, which required more than 1,800 meters of fabric; 17 enormous chandeliers custom-made in Italy; more than 3,600 meters of turquoise velvet for wall upholstery; more than 16,000 artificial silk flowers; and 5,000 candles, each handmade.
  • It took costume designer Sandy Powell 120 meters of fabric, 400 LEDs, and thousands of Swarovski crystals to create the Fairy Godmother’s dress. The dress was almost 120 centimeters wide.
  • In the film, stepsisters Anastasia and Drizella always wear dresses of the same style but different colors, just as in the Disney animated film of the same name.
  • The film was shot in the pavilions of the British Pinewood Studios and at various outdoor locations in England.
  • Cinderella reads aloud a fairy tale written by Pip the chipmunk – a character from the Disney film “Enchanted” (2007), in the finale of which Pip presents his book.
  • In the scene where the pumpkin transforms into a carriage, Ella and the Fairy Godmother, while trying to get out of the greenhouse, first follow each other, but in the next shot we see them exiting from opposite sides.
  • When working on the castle and ballroom, Dante Ferretti used various architectural styles from different eras and locations, mostly elements of European architecture from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. The hall turned out to be enormous – 45 meters long and 32 meters wide. It occupied the entire seventh pavilion of the Pinewood studio. The interior was luxurious: marble floors; a massive staircase; curtains, for the sewing of which more than 1800 meters of fabric were used; 17 huge chandeliers made to order in Italy; more than 3600 meters of turquoise velvet for wall upholstery; more than 16,000 silk artificial flowers, as well as 5000 candles, each of which was handmade.
  • Cinderella reads aloud a fairy tale written by Pip, the chipmunk from Disney's 'Enchanted' (2007), which culminates in Pip presenting his book.
