Celtic Utopia is a music documentary that explores the evolving folk scene in Ireland. The film examines how the country's traditional sounds reflect the struggles of a postcolonial society as it deals with its historical heritage. Through this lens, the music is presented as a connection between past hardships and hopes for the future.
The production was a collaboration between companies from Ireland and Sweden. It was directed by Lars Lovén and Dennis Harvey, marking the second film in Harvey's directing career following The Building and Burning of a Refugee Camp. Harvey also co-wrote the screenplay with Lovén. The film features a narrator played by Lilí Ní Dhomhnaill, alongside appearances by Charles Hendy, Andrew Hendy, Róisín Barrett, Ken Mooney, and Finnian O'Connor appearing as themselves. The project was produced by Elin Lilleman Eriksson and has a total runtime of 90 minutes.
