What's left behind the scenes

  • “Monsters vs. Aliens” is the first film from DreamWorks Studios shot entirely in 3D using InTru™ 3D technology, combining the latest tools from DreamWorks Animation with Intel’s latest developments.
  • The name of one of the characters, B.O.B., stands for “benzoate – ostylizine – bicarbonate”.
  • The relationship between the general and the president is a kind of tribute from the authors to the work of Stanley Kubrick, and in particular to his film “Dr. Strangelove,” which is especially noticeable in the scenes at the command post.
  • When creating the episodes set in San Francisco, the authors were influenced by the famous car chases from the film “Bullitt” and the series “The Streets of San Francisco.” The directors wanted these scenes to look more like a live-action film than animation.
  • To realistically depict the scene of Susan fleeing from an alien robot, a Styrofoam model of San Francisco was created, and Line Anderson – the project’s animator whose body shape is similar to Susan’s – was made to run through it.
  • In the scene of Galactor’s address to people in Tokyo, a screen on a building in the upper left corner shows the cartoon 'Madagascar'.
  • On the general’s right side, instead of orders and medals, there is a Shrek badge.
  • During the production of 'Monsters,' approximately 100 terabytes of disk space were created for data storage, more than 30 episodes were processed, which would have taken over 1,000 years to render on a single computer, and an explosion was filmed in one of the battle scenes, requiring more than three terabytes of disk space.
  • The alien’s phrase – 'nothing personal, it's just business' – is a reference to the famous saying of American gangster Al Capone.
  • During the scene of Galactazar's address to the people in Tokyo, a screen on a building can be noticed in the left corner, showing the cartoon "Madagascar".
  • The alien's phrase – "nothing personal, it's just business" – is a reference to the famous saying of American gangster Al Capone.
