Short description

Leviticus is a horror romance about two teenage boys who are pursued by a violent supernatural entity. This creature targets them by transforming into the person each boy desires most, which is the other. The pair must find a way to escape the entity while dealing with their feelings for one another.

Written and directed by Adrian Chiarella, the film is a joint production between Australia and the United States. The cast features Joe Bird and Stacy Clausen in the lead roles, with supporting performances by Mia Wasikowska, Nicholas Hope, Tyallah Bullock, and Ewen Leslie. The production involved a crew of 146 people and a cast of 29.

Financially, the movie earned double its 4 million USD budget, bringing in 8 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is moderately positive, as shown by a 6.8 rating on TMDB based on 519 votes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Cinematographer Tyson Perkins was brought onto the project because the filmmakers liked his work on the horror film 'Up Hill.' Director and writer Adrian Chiarella wanted 'Levit' to be shot in a similar style.
  • While writing the screenplay, Adrian Chiarella studied real-life stories about conversion therapy.
  • On the first day of rehearsals, director Adrian Chiarella took the two lead actors on a trip to scout filming locations. This helped them get to know each other better in a relaxed setting.
  • Director Adrian Chiarella sent the lead actors to a shopping mall, instructing them to stay in character and treat the other visitors as an audience.
  • Director and screenwriter Adrian Chiarella's favorite moments in the film are the improvisations. He allowed the cinematographer to become part of the scene and gave the actors the freedom to improvise.
