- All nine stories are told in real time.
- Robin Wright and Jason Isaacs asked director Rodrigo Garcia to tell them the backstory of their characters, to which he instructed them to come up with it themselves, but not to tell him anything. Garcia only asked the actors what they had come up with after filming the necessary scenes. As it turned out, Wright and Isaacs' characters were war correspondents who met while covering the fighting in Bosnia.
