La Chinoise

In a Paris apartment during the summer of 1967, five young people have set up an experiment in living according to Marxist-Leninist ideas. Surrounded by stacks of Mao's writings, they call their group Aden-Arabia and debate their place in the world and how it might be changed. Their leader, Véronique, pushes the group toward a violent act, and internal tensions eventually lead to one member being expelled. The film is a stylized, essay-like work built around the students' discussions and slogans rather than a conventional plot.

Jean-Luc Godard directed and wrote the film, the twelfth of the twenty-three features he made in chronological order, following Masculin Féminin and preceding 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her. Anne Wiazemsky plays Véronique, with Jean-Pierre Léaud as Guillaume, Juliet Berto as Yvonne, Michel Semeniako as Henri, Lex De Bruijn as Kirilov and Omar Diop as Omar. It was produced in France by Parc Film, Athos Films, Anouchka Films and Les Productions de la Guéville, and runs 96 minutes.

On IMDb and TMDB the film holds a 7 out of 10 rating from 248 votes, while film critics give it 7.9 out of 10 from 20 reviews.
