Captain Newfoundland is a documentary that explores the multifaceted life of Geoff Stirling. A former athlete and media mogul, Stirling is remembered as an activist who opposed his home province joining Confederation and as the creator of a psychedelic superhero. The film examines his influence on the region, including his belief that the province might be part of the lost island of Atlantis. To depict Stirling's complexity, directors Mike Feehan and Jamie Miller appear on screen themselves, blending animation, archival footage, and imaginative recreations based on Stirling's experimental late-night television programming from the 1970s.
The film was produced in Canada by Game Theory Films and Seachange Films, with a screenplay by Jono Hunter. It was co-directed by Jamie Miller and Mike Feehan, who also appear in the cast. Other people appearing as themselves include Mark Critch, Greg Malone, G. Scott Stirling, and Lydia McLaughlin, with Geoff Stirling appearing via archive footage. A total of 22 credited cast members contribute to the 94-minute production. This animated comedy and documentary was released on September 17, 2026.
