A terminally ill man returns to the childhood home he left behind, hoping to find a sense of closure there. While recording messages meant to be left for his son, he discovers an old VHS camera buried on the property. The tapes inside hold family home movies, and as he watches them, something unsettling begins to intrude on the footage.
Death of a Yellow Bird is a Canadian horror film directed by Cody Calahan, who also wrote the screenplay. It is his third feature, following Antisocial in 2013 and Vicious Fun in 2021. The film was produced by Chad Archibald, Calahan and Ari Millen through Black Fawn Films, and runs 93 minutes. It was released on September 17, 2026.
The film builds its horror around memory, isolation and a haunted rural setting rather than a large cast or scale. Its placement in Calahan's filmography, arriving five years after his previous feature, suggests a return to the genre territory he has worked in across his directing career.
