- The film is based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novel “Anne of Green Gables”. This author also wrote a whole series of books about Anne Shirley.
- Initially, the role of Anna was to be played by Schuyler Grant (Diana). However, many expressed the opinion that it should be portrayed by a Canadian actress, and thus the choice fell on Meghan Follows, despite a lackluster first audition.
- Meghan Follows' natural hair color is light blonde, but for the role of Anne, it was dyed and combined with wigs.
- Schuyler Grant, who at the time had short, light brown hair, had to wear a wig to portray Diana Barry.
- Dawn Greenhalgh, who plays Mrs. Cadbury, is the mother of actress Meghan Follows.
- Morgan Chapman (Mini May) is the niece of director Kevin Sullivan.
