Two stories for the price of one: a video store clerk tries to get acquainted with a waitress; a man beats his pregnant wife, unaware that her brother is a violent racist.

What's left behind the scenes

The actor playing Leo, Kim Bodnia, and director and screenwriter Nicolas Winding Refn had a falling out during filming, and their quarrel was widely covered in the press. Bodnia even claimed that after completing work on the film, he had to seek help from psychiatrists. Since then, Bodnia and Refn have not spoken to each other.
The character played by Zlatko Burić, who orders three Tuborg beers before watching a movie with his friends, is a reference to Burić's character in a Tuborg advertising campaign (where he played a foreigner who owned a kiosk), which was also directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (the director and screenwriter of 'Only God Forgives'). Interestingly, Burić pronounces 'Tuborg' with a hard 'g', which is incorrect according to the rules of the Danish language.
