The Assignment

An American naval officer and family man named Annibal Ramirez is the exact double of Carlos Sanchez, a notorious international assassin known as the Jackal. Because of this resemblance, the CIA and Mossad recruit Ramirez for a secret operation to lure the terrorist out of hiding. As part of a complex plot to deceive the KGB and strip Carlos of his Russian support, Ramirez must assume the identity of the criminal, a process that forces him to confront a darker side of his own nature.

This 1997 Canadian action thriller was directed by Christian Duguay. It is the fifth of 13 films he directed, following Screamers and preceding The Art of War. The movie features a cast including Aidan Quinn, Donald Sutherland, and Ben Kingsley. The production was a collaboration between The Movie Network, Super Écran, Triumph Films, and Allegro Films, with a credited crew of 61 people.
